Deeply Political Post
Oct. 14th, 2005 10:51 amI must admit I'm most curious as to what You, my f-list of foreigners, think - or if you even hear - about the election in Poland. I have very strong feelings about it - and with the time they grow even stronger, thanks to black campaign done by the so-called right wing.
I do want to tempt You into reading this post, so I promise there'll be a nice anecdote at the end :D
The first funny thing about the Polish election is - there isn't really such a thing as the right and left wing in Poland, at least not the way it's in most other (especially modern, western) countries. Let's just say that PiS (Law & Justice) are morally right-winged to the point of being unpleasant (I don't think they're all homophobes, but some of them certainly are and they wave their Christianity around like its a weapon) whereas economically, they are much more socialist than liberal or right-wing. They keep on promising BOTH much lower bills for the poor/higher for the rich and more money for the poor, and my knowledge when it comes to economics is lacking, still even I can see they haven't got the money to manage such a strange thing.
And when it comes to the so-called left-wing, SLD is a party that supports the interests of the rich and keeps a pretty conservatist look. SdPl seems much more Labour-alike, but they didn't even get to the parliament.
So in the parliament nowadays we have:
PiS - who pretend to be right-wing but in truth are conservatist socialists who lack skills except for when it comes to PR. Still, they aren't as bad as they're shown in, for example, German media - they're certainly not anti-semits. Rather anti-German and convinced the world is out to get us. (If the world was out to get Them, I'd congratulate it and show directions).
PO - who are said to be liberals, but are tolerant (not Liberal!) in the 'moral' matters, which means they say it's necessary to respect gays and fight the prejudices, but do nto agree to gay marriage. So they're about just as liberal as I am, and I don't feel liberal. They are actually quite right-wing. They seem to be competent.
Self-defence - not much to be said. Their leader thinks it's enough to print more money to make my country richer. Need I say moron?
Liga Polskich Rodzin - The League of Polish Families - they are so-called Catholic party, which means they are opposite anything my religion stands for - such as love, tolerance, dignity, respect for others. They are much worse than PiS and they offer their support to PiS repeatedly.
SLD - they pretend to be socialists, but in truth they're most of them criminals and post-communists. Sorry if I harm anyone's feelings, but that's the truth.
And that would be it.
Now we have the election. Two candidates for the president. Mr Donald Tusk and Mr Lech Kaczyński.
The amusing thing for us, Poles, is that their names are both connected with ducks - there was Donald Duck and Kaczka means Duck in Polish. Kaczyński is nearly DuckMan ;)
I like Donald - for he is intelligent, charming, well-spoken, open-minded and competent - or at least so he seems. He doesn't much like to work hard, that's true - but he has staff that does (my beloved Rokita ;). He claims we need to make the rulers' priviledges smaller.
I am afraid of Mr Kaczyński for he claims the president's power should be bigger, for he is supported by such media as Radio Maryja (deeply conservative, homophobic, antisemitist), for he uses the fact he's a Catholic like it's an argument (and I say -F**k him, I don't want my religion to be used like this! That's a low thing to do!)
And the anecdote:
Mr Kaczyński: Tusk is not a real person, he's simply a product of PO's marketig technics.
Mr Tusk: I'd never dare say Mr Kaczyński is a product of marketing, for I would have to doubt the value of such marketing.
Mr K: And you say you're not nasty?
Mr T: (with a grin) Sometimes I am.
Needless to say, I voted PO and shall vote Tusk.

Date: 2005-10-17 09:27 am (UTC)Polish politics actually can be fun. I have a small crush on ugly-but-so-damn-ironic Rokita-whose wife-is-my-namesake-isn't-that-so-squee? :D Walesa era - now that was like what, eons ago ;) I wasn't interested in politics back then. I was about eight I guess, maybe slightly older.
Philology is fun, too - actually, I wrote 'phonetics' instead of 'politics'. ;)
I'm more and more scared by Evil!Duckman. It sooo pisses me off when someone uses religious beliefs as a tool to win an election. It's just so against everythimng said religion stands for. It's disgusting in so many ways.
It's not like I keep track on Russia politics - I merely know I ought to be scared of Putin ;) for he wants to tkae my gas away and eats little children for breakfast. Polish or (how should I write it, dammit?) Czeczenian (so yes, I wrote the Polish way. I do hope it's comprehensive) are best.
On the lighter note - I saw an anti-Bush graffitti in my town a few days ago ;)
