Being a True Fan
Oct. 19th, 2005 02:38 pmI've always considered myself something of a hard-core HG/SS fan. Have seen it, been there, started in my teens when PG-13 well-written kisses scenes could make me blush. I was like 15 or 16. I've seen good writers emerge and leave, I've seen fandom flame wars come, pass and come again. I thought I was one of the Few in my beautiful country. The capital letter is there for a Reason.
Naive.
I introduced an aunt of mine (a year younger aunt, believe it or not) to HG/SS fandom and she liked it, but didn't have the necessary time.
She introduced her younger sister (now almost 17) to it.
My even-younger-aunt has only been in the fandom for a year, but she recognises the Important Names, knows the Important stories, moreover...
She's got an SS/HG picture on a wall.
I'm so not hard-core.
(And if Wendynat is reading this - You're her favourite author).
BTW - Polish laws are different than those in the states. Essentially, 16 is the age of consent. So she's not doing anything illegal, especially as she's not frequenting Ashwinder, good girl. I joined ashwinder on my 18th birthday, isn't that so kewl?
I am wondering if taking British pronunciation was the right choice, it's so much more difficult. Then again, it's a challenge.
