novin_ha | Question about Buffy & VM Drabble

So I've finished season 3 and as I understand it, series now sports a spin-off. Angel season 1 was aired simultaneously with Buffy season 4.

How do I watch them, preferably? Can I watch the entire season 4 of Buffy and then go to season 1 of Angel, or should I watch an episode of Buffy and an episode of Angel and so on? Are the plots at all crossed with one another between the series?

Oh, and while I'm at that. I love Cordelia and I actually find Wesley/Cordelia plot amusing and sweet. Does that mean I should burn in hell?

And while I'm here, I've passed History of the USA but still don't have Cultural Studies results. Next exam on Friday. Fingers crossed and all that, please?

And yesterday sucked, cockroach-wise, so I come to you with a 300 word drabble. Veronica Mars, post-season 3, very minor spoilers (basically only about a certain 'ship in season 3).

Title is a bastardised version of Suzanne Vega's "Birth-day (Love Made Real)"

Birth-day (Life Made Real)

Veronica can’t boast of many friends at her workplace. Not at first, when she’s a prodigy with sky-high training results. Not half a year later, when she finds her first murderer, and the boss takes her aside and explains to her that it’s cool that she solves crimes, but there’s procedure to be followed and when she doesn’t, she hands the criminal a free out-of-jail card.

(Monopoly metaphors make Veronica remember her ex-roommate Tosh, who comforted her after the messy break-up with Piz.)

Now she’s been on the job for two years, and it’s sadly significant that her co-workers give her a bottle of substandard wine for her birthday, and she doesn’t even like wine. Another thing she gets is all the crappy assignments they can land on her, and she’s glad to be able to prove her worth thusly, for the most part – she is learning fast, after all. Born and bred for this job, right?

Most part doesn’t extend to dripping sinks in motels of ill repute, roamed by huge cockroaches.

Only her father calls her with birthday wishes; Mac sends a text message, demanding that they hook up, but Veronica can’t think of any date when meeting would be possible, what with her deadlines and the boyfriend whom she doesn’t like that much anymore, but whose presence is preferable to coming back to an empty flat.

She blinks rapidly to guard off sleepiness, and finishes pouring through her case files. Birthday or no birthday, she’s got a task to fulfill. Agent Veronica Mars ready for some action, she mocks herself in front of the dirty mirror.

Half an hour later, she learns that it doesn’t look half as bad-ass when the badge you wave at someone has a huge bug sitting on it.

I knew she would come and that there would be something about her not being real.

I'm on 5x14 now and I am honestly in love with Spike-in-Love. He's so cute, and the way he jumps hoops around Buffy :(

But so far I don't despise Spuffy and the plot about Dawn is one of my favourites - the sisterly feelings are beautifully shown, in my opinion, and I cried when Buffy and Dawn made up after Dawn learned that she's the Key.

Yeah. I don't hate either of those things either.

I don't even hate the dreaded season 7.

I think it is easier if you haven't had years of getting attached to things being a certain way on the show.

Tee hee ;) That actually is reassuring - about season 7 especially. I can't imagine watching season 5 week after a week, episode at a time - I can't stop watching because it is so engrossing. And now Joyce is dead and I cried almost through the entire episode. It was so great.

Anya especially - I do love her :)

Yeah. Season 5 is not my favorite, but I was in a hurry to get through it. Also there episodes like the body which was so amazingly done.

Anya is my favorite... well one of them.

Season 7 I understand would have sucked to watch week to week but I actually quite like it. Sure I hate Kennedy, but that's part of the fun really.

I finished Season 7! It would have been a torture to watch week after week indeed - it had me scared as it was. I think I liked season 7 better than 6 anyway - even though OM,WF was awesome. The villain was sort of interesting, Buffy was less annoying... but the end was so sad, what with Anya dying. Despite myself I was very moved by the final episodes' Spuffy subplot - Buffy just lying there with Spike kicked me in the gut.

And then they killed Anya :(

What I really liked (and hated at the same time) was that there were characters like Anya who felt they could never be "in". Never be as important as the core Scoobies, never as loved. Anya felt it, Xander felt it about Anya's relationship with Buffy especially...

And now I'm watching season 3 of Angel, and Fred is going to choose Gun over Wesley, and I'm so sad for him, because it just feels like there's no one who would like him best. I'm so sad for him :(

Especially as I've got a spoiler that he dies -_-

(And I liked Andrew on Buffy. I really did. I guess I'm a weak, weak person... And I didn't even hate Kennedy! Not that I liked her, mind ;))

People love Wesley best... just one the people he wants to. Also we the viewers love him beyond reason (including my brother who thinks Alexis Desinof is way too hot to be married to Alyson Hannigan).

He is kind of hot, isn't he?

And that he married Alyson Hannigan kind of awakens the romantic in me. Sniff. I'm so weak.

I'm rewatching Buffy with my Mum, and we've reached 2x11. I love Buffy so much!

He is totally hot. And it is totally cute.

Boyfriend is re watching Buffy and is going to start watching season 6 when move is complete (or at least once he's gotten everything into the apartment.

After that... ANGEL.

I love Angel so much (the show not the character)

I wasn't very convinced to Angel after the first season, but now the interactions between the characters have me absolutely hooked. Even if Cordelia is at her best during the first season.

Oh dear, once I find a boy or girlfriend I might be able to convince them to watch Buffy with me! Squee! Now that's an argument for having them :D

A friend of mine is watching Buffy now, thanks to me, and it's a blast hearing her reactions :D

Now I'm waiting for the next issue of the comic book, which is due out in around two weeks. Buffy season 8 :]

I really love Angel... possibly more than Buffy at this point.

Boyfriend came pre-interested in good things. He reads SoIaF, watches BSG, and has been sold on Buffy, Bones, The Office, Veronica Mars, and Dr. Who.

I don't think I could love Angel more than Buffy, even though it has some amazing moments, and Buffy has her sins towards the end. It's just that Buffy hits all the emotional buttons for me...

I just started watching Big Love, by the way.

Buffy hits a lot of emotional buttons but I just like the philosophical tone of AtS more. Ultimately Buffy is a show about black and white and Angel is a show about gray.

How are you liking Big Love?

You are quite right about Buffy vs Angel... Yeah, that makes Angel interesting. But there are some shades of grey in Buffy nevertheless - still, redemption and, alternatively, betrayal themes make a strong case for watching and liking Angel :D

I am loving Big Love. It's delightfully painful in a thousand small ways when I squirm in my seat because sooner or later push will come to shove, and the characters are all interesting so far.

And seeing Tina Majorino and the other two from Veronica's cast makes me very happy :) Especially as Tina's character is so cute!
